In this tutorial I will show you how you can mix fluids in realflow 3 and lightwave 8 with a mesh.

  1. First you create a new Project in Realflow 3 (In this example i use the name "mix_fluids_tut" and save it in "C:\Realflow\") (pic1).

  2. Now change to Lightwave Modeler and create a glass like this (pic2).

  3. Then "Triple" the Object and save the object as "glass" in the "objects" folder.

  4. Now change to Realflow and import the "glass" Object.

  5. Create 2 "Circle" Emitters and position them like (pic3). (You can also position them differently but it is important that the particles of the emitters go in the glass. If you have nothing select in the “Export Central” you can always use the “Action” Button as a Preview to see where your fluids flow (pic3).

  6. Change the following settings for both emitters: (pic4)

  7. Then go to the “Daemon” Tab and create a “Gravity” Daemon.

  8. Open the Scene Tree and change it like (pic5).

  9. Now change to the object Tab and change the following settings for the object: (pic6)

  10. Then go to the Mesh Tab, create a Mesh (pic7) and select both Emitters (pic8).

  11. Change the following settings for the Mesh: (pic9) .

  12. Open the “Export Central” and press “Export All”.

  13. Then go to the Mesh Export and tick off the box “Mesh Sequence (.lwo)” (pic10).

  14. Save the Project.

  15. Press “Action” to render the simulation. (In this example I stopped after frame 150).

  16. Now change to Lightwave Layout and import the mesh: Load Object - “C:\Realflow\mix_fluids_tut\meshes\Mesh01001.lwo”.

  17. Go to the properties of the object and use “Deform | Add Displacement | NextLimit_Realflow_mesh”

  18. Open the “Surface” Editor and change the settings like (pic11) and then open the “Texture Editor” of the color and change the settings like (pic11).

  19. Then add a Layer and use “Gradient” and change the settings of this Layer like (pic12).

  20. Press “Use Texture”, close the “Texture” Editor and the “Surface” Editor and save the Surface: “File | Save | Save all Objects”

  21. Move camera and light(s) in right position and set the last Frame in Layout to 150.

  22. Now go to the camera properties and set “Antialiasing” to “low”. Then go to “Rendering” | “Render options” and set „Ray Trace Shadows“ and „Ray Trace Reflection“.

  23. Last you have to set up the “Output Files” and press “F10” to render the video.

The rendered movie with the settings of this tutorial looks like that: movie 1 (DivX Codec, 1.05 MB)

Movie with glass: movie 2 (791 KB, DivX Codec)

Color changes during animation: movie 3 ( 707KB, DivX Codec)

If you want the Scene of this Tutorial you can download it here.
After Download you have to open “mix_fluids_tut.flw”with Reaflow and press “Action”. After frame 150 press “Action” again to stop. Now you can open “lightwave.lws” and Lightwave Layout load the scene. Now you only need to render the scene.
