importing .bin files

Realflow 3.1.14 Tutorial for Lightwave 8.0

In this Tutorial i will show you how you can import .bin files form Realflow 3 to Lightwave 8 and how you can set up the surface of the fluid.

  1. Create any Project in Realflow 3 and finish it so you only have to press the "Action" Button to render the simulation. (You can also donwload my Scene here) .

  2. Then open the "Export Central" and make sure that "Particle Cache (.bin)" is ticked off (pic1) (It is the best to press "Export All!, so everything you need is selected).
  3. Press "Action" to render the simulation.

  4. Change to Lightwave Layout and add a "null" object: "Add" - "Objects" - "Add Null" (shortcut "Strg+N") (pic2).

  5. Type in a name for the "null" Object (for example: "RF_Emitter).

  6. Open the porberties of the Object and select "Deform" - "Add Displacement" - "NextLimit_paticles".

  7. Then Doubleclick on the name and the "Realflow Particle Loader" opened (pic3).

  8. Here you select under "Select .bin Sequence" the first file in the folder "/yourRealflowProject/particles/" and press open (pic3).

  9. Press "Accept" to close the "Particle Loader" (pic3).

  10. If you now change the Frame in the Timelime you will see that the particle are imported (pic4).

  11. Now you have to set up the "Surface" of the particles. For this you can use "Hypervoxels" or the "NextLimit_fluid_shader". In this Tutorial i will use the "NextLimit_fluid_shader".

  12. Therefor you must select "Effects" - "Volumetrics" - "Add Volumetric" - "NextLimit_fluid_shader" (pic5).

  13. Then Doubleclick on the name to open the NextLimit "FlowTracer". There you can set up what your fluid looks like.

  14. At "Particle Sequence" you press the arrow and choose the same file as you have chosen in point 8 (first file in the folder "/yourRealflowProject/particles/") and press open.

  15. The other things leave as they are.

  16. Now you only have to render the Frame (shortcut "F9"). (You can also render a video with the fluid_shader but it takes too long for me).

  17. Important for this Tutorial: The color of the fluid is (like in "NextLimit FlowTracer") black. So if you want to render the fluid without any objects and the Lightwave Background is black you will see nothing. So you have to change the fluid color, the Lightwave Background or you add some objects to see the fluid.

A rendered Picture looks like that: Pic 1 (Rendertime: 7min 30 sec)

Another Picture: Pic 2 (Rendertime: 13min 28 sec)

If you want the Scene of this Tutorial you can download it here.
After Download you have to open “import_bin.flw”with Reaflow and press “Action”. After the simulation process you can open the file “lw” and Lightwave Layout load the scene. Then you only need to render the scene.
